Our mother, Julie, 85, is still working behind the scenes. Her unconditional love for me and my older sisters is immense. She has suffered a lot with grief and disappointment and I never fully appreciated this until last year, when at 49 years old, I visited her in Singapore and felt that for the first time in a long time, I understood something.
